Marius Daugvila was born in 1958 on the south side of Chicago in Marquette Park.
Born to immigrant parents, Jurgis and Alexandra Daugvila, he was raised in the very traditional Lithuanian heritage. Thus the beginning of a soul's voyage to 2018 is where he is today.
Jurgis and Alexandra Daugvila came to America seeking asylum from war torn Lithuania and became sponsored in America in 1940.
Jurgis was a University trained artist and worked for Montgomery Wards display designer, and Continental Bank as construction project management.
He carved, cut glass, and wove beautiful textiles throughout his life in Chicago. Some of his woven art is on display in The Art Institute of Chicago and Lithuanian Museum of Folk Art in Lemont. Raising 3 children through the 60's and 70's. Quite historic times in Chicago. Marius was schooled at St. Rita on the south side and followed his father's love for wood, and how to understand and work with it as a functional purpose.
Marius went on to attend U.I.C in Chicago, and pursued a degree in Industrial Design, focusing on furniture & cabinet design and building. This is also where he met Cheryl, his future wife and design partner. She is a kitchen designer.
After building custom cabinets for everything from custom golf ball display racks to beautiful luxury kitchens for 35 years, Marius saw the need for maintaining all those projects to last long into the future, and be timeless architectural works of art. Hence the beginning of his new endeavor of cabinet repair and woodworking.
Replacing hinges and drawer slides, installing convenience accessories, and touching up the worn tired finish is the main part of his craft. Adding trims, painting existing cabinets, replacing door and drawer fronts, refurbishing old wood finishes are also his preferred projects.
Marius resides in Downers Grove with Cheryl and their 2 cats. They have 5 chickens and 2 bee hives as part of their pursuit of healthy lifestyle and living. Cheryl Has a kitchen design and art studio in downtown LaGrange, and has 40 years experience in kitchen design. She is a very well respected in her industry. Together Marius and Cheryl have created and built over 3000 projects. Their work lives on in many suburban and Chicago homes.
